Youth Program Instructor Opening
Painted Sky Center for the Arts has an immediate opening for a part-time youth art instructor to teach Kindergarten through 6th grade children for our After-School Kids Art Club, in John Day, Oregon, starting in August 2024.The right person must be passionate about art and possess a desire to teach a wide variety of mediums such as: drawing, painting, clay sculpture, mixed media, cartooning, digital art making, graphic design, art theory and appreciation, collaborative group art projects and more.
A teaching degree is not required, but candidates should have some experience of working with groups of children. Training or formal education in arts is not required, as long as candidate can prove they have experience and skills in multiple mediums of art and the passion and ability to teach these skills to others.
During the school year, class times are Monday-Thursday from 3:45pm-5pm and Friday mornings from 9am-12pm. This does not include prep and clean-up time before and after class which will vary depending on the student project/s.
Pay Range is $15-17 per hour based on experience and benefits include the ability to bring your own children with you to work!
Final candidate/s will be asked to create a sample lesson plan of their proposed curriculum.
Verification of previous employment references and background check will be completed on final candidates prior to hiring.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
Ability to plan and execute lesson plans
Must be extremely dependable
Must be a patient and kind personality type
Excellent collaboration, customer service, supervisory and management skills
Proven ability to orient, train and provide support for program staff and volunteers
Knowledge of the developmental, mental, emotional, relational, and social needs of children
Highly organized with ability to multi-task
Excellent communication skills with students, parents and superiors
Should possess problem-solving and creative thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently
Capable of following directions
Proficient computer skills
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
CPR Certified for children
Basic first aid training a plus
Passionate and enthusiastic about art & creative education
Focused on great student outcomes and making sure students have fun
Always prepared, flexible and open to new ideas
Enjoy working in a fun, but fast paced environment
Significant first-hand experience in making art
Passion for working with youth and creating a fun and positive interactive experience
