Painted Sky Center for the Arts is located in historic Canyon City, OR. Canyon City is the county seat of Grant County and Canyon City was established in June 1862 when gold was discovered in Canyon Creek, which flows from the south to meet the John Day River at John Day. Miners flocked to Whiskey Gulch and the surrounding area and soon the busting town of Canyon City was born. Many historic buildings remain today. Canyon City is located just South of John Day, which is at the intersection of Highways 26 and 395. Canyon City is about a 3 hour drive from Bend, Boise, and the Tri-Cities, Washington. This quant little town is surrounded by the natural beauty of the John Day Valley and is home to many talented artists that enjoy the landscape and peaceful place they call home. |
