Executive Director
Location: John Day, Oregon | Full-Time | $65,000/year
Overview
Painted Sky Center for the Arts (PSCA) is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as Executive Director. This individual will guide the organization in advancing its mission to provide accessible, high-quality arts education and experiences that enrich the lives of residents and visitors in Grant County. PSCA offers a wide range of programming for all ages in music, theater, visual arts, writing, leatherworking, and more.
The Executive Director serves as the chief operating officer of PSCA, working in partnership with the Board of Directors. This role requires a blend of strategic leadership, operational oversight, and strong community engagement. The Executive Director manages day-to-day operations, staff, programming, budgeting, fundraising, and public relations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Planning
Partner with the Board of Directors to refine and implement PSCA’s strategic vision.
Identify and address organizational challenges and opportunities.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board and represent PSCA in the community.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture.
Act as PSCA’s primary spokesperson and ambassador.
Operations & Administration
Oversee all operational functions to ensure efficiency and excellence.
Develop and update policies and procedures; ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards.
Securely manage personnel, donor, financial, and program files.
Program Oversight
Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational and cultural programming.
Ensure all offerings align with PSCA’s mission, meet community needs, and maintain high quality.
Continuously improve programs through feedback and assessment.
Human Resources
Determine staffing needs and lead recruitment, training, and supervision.
Promote a healthy, safe, and supportive work environment.
Conduct performance evaluations and manage personnel issues responsibly.
Financial Oversight & Fundraising
Collaborate with staff and Board to develop and manage the annual budget.
Ensure sound accounting practices and financial reporting.
Research funding sources, write grants, and lead fundraising efforts.
Coordinate donor engagement, events, and other revenue-generating activities.
Marketing & Communications
Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, funders, and media.
Lead marketing and outreach efforts, including digital and print materials.
Promote PSCA’s visibility, reputation, and community relevance.
Risk & Facility Management
Identify and manage potential risks to people, property, and reputation.
Ensure appropriate insurance coverage and staff training.
Maintain a safe and secure environment for all users of PSCA’s facilities.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Prior nonprofit and/or arts administration experience preferred.
Proven leadership in operations, programming, or development roles.
A passion for the arts and community engagement.
Skills & Attributes
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Strategic thinker with a hands-on, adaptable approach.
Technologically proficient (Google Drive, Slack, Canva, Excel, Facebook, etc.).
High integrity, emotional intelligence, and professional maturity.
Additional Information
Full-time, 40 hours/week, including some evenings and weekends.
On-site position at PSCA’s facility in John Day, Oregon.
Annual salary of $65,000
