Pit-Fired Pottery
Become a part of a New Year's Painted Sky tradition!
In our first class, we will learn the components and process of creating a successful pit fired pot. Students will then be given two weeks to work independently utilizing open studio time (included in class tuition for the duration of the class) to build their pieces for the pit firing.
Students and their invited guests will then meet at Nomad Art Studios in John Day for an evening pit fire and family style dinner, then meet again the next morning to open the cooled pit to reveal the magical alchemy of earth and fire!
Price: $220 | Returning individuals who have taken one of Genevieve's prior classes: $60 | Members will receive their standard discount.
Age and Skill Level: Individuals 18 years of age and older who can independently build a vessel or sculptural piece.
NOTE: Friday and Saturday dates are contingent upon weather and may be changed.

About your teacher
After being introduced to pottery in high school, I pursued my interest in ceramic arts at Bennington College in Vermont, a school with a deep history in ceramic where I received my B.A. in ceramics. During that time, I also worked in a ceramics factory underglazing literally hundreds of pots a day! I also interned at the Capitol Children’s Museum in Washington D.C. and created a ceramic studio and program. I began teaching hand building and wheel thrown pottery at Painted Sky in 2022 and am continually inspired by the Art Center’s amazing community!
